Kirkcaldy woman runs in support of her brother

A supportive sister went all out for a 10K run on Sunday during a new running event which started at Musselburgh Racecourse in Edinburgh.

Lindsay Melville (28) from Kirkcaldy ran the Scottish 10K on September 18 to help raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Her brother, Ryan (25) – who she draws inspiration from – has Mosaic Down’s Syndrome and the money she raises will help support charity Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

“The race went really well,” Lindsay said. “I am one of those people who loves running and managed to complete it in 1hr 20mins.”

She is no stranger to challenging herself as she took part in the Edinburgh Marathon in 2012.

Lindsay knows first hand the difference the charity makes to families and is delighted to have raised £300 so far, with sponsorship still coming in.

She said:“It is a Scottish charity which means the money stays in the country to help families with things such as respite days and trips out. It really means a lot to those who need it and I would like to thank Dawn Muir at Kingdom Properties and Templehall Tavern for the £100 donation.

“I find raising money for good causes such as Down’s Syndrome Scotland a real buzz and feel good factor. Having Ryan in my life and his friends as well as seeing how the organisation help them makes it all worthwhile.”

Kerry Lindsay, fundraising manager at Down’s Syndrome Scotland, said: “We are delighted that Lindsay chose to raise money for us. We are so grateful for her support.”

Mosaic Down’s syndrome is one of the rarest forms of Down’s syndrome where only some cells of the body have an extra chromosome and some have the typical number of chromosomes.
