Largo Playgroup get to grips with local landscape thanks to charity

Children in Largo have been given the opportunity to find out all about the outdoors thanks to a new partnership with a local charity.

From hedgehog houses to bug hotels, bird feeders to frog ponds, children at Largo Pre-school Playgroup have been having great fun learning about the natural environment after teaming up with Homelands Trust for a new eco project in the charity’s grounds in Lundin Links.

Jan Kerr from Homelands has put together a packed programme which sees the two to four-year-olds take part in fun eco-activities each week. She said: “It’s a pleasure to be working with the Playgroup children and staff. The place takes on a real buzz on Thursday mornings. Thanks to the children’s efforts, the grounds are slowly turning into a miniature nature reserve with bird feeders, hedgehog and frog habitats, two bug hotels and a welly boot garden on display.”

Veronica MacLeod, Largo Pre-School Playgroup manager, said: “We are very lucky to have the lovely grounds at Homelands on our doorstep.

“It’s great that the two community groups can come together in this way to the benefit of all. We look forward to seeing the new eco-friendly habitats come to life and provide even more learning opportunities for the children in years to come.” For information on the playgroup call 07917 743564.
