Pupils and teachers at Park Drive bade farewell to Mr Laing after 31 years’ service – without a single day of sickness.

In that time, said a school spokesman, Mr Laing had seen many pupils grow up to become parents, who still held him high regard.

He was presented with a series of gifts to mark his departure and the spokesman added: “Mr Laing has been a wonderful asset to staff, pupils and parents at St Agatha’s, going above and beyond the call of duty.

“He will be sorely missed but we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
