Leslie author honours Fife councillor with new book

Former district councillor Jim Lewis passed away in July 2015, but his distinguished work promoting youth development over many decades lives on.

And one of those he came to influence was Leslie-based poet and author Ian Nimmo White, the man behind the publication.

“He was an inspirational person yet only ever confided in a very few people, me included, about his time serving in Burma as part of the Chindits regiment.” Ian explained.

“Despite being tortured by the enemy, and suffering a total breakdown when he returned to the UK, he turned it around by dedicating the rest of his life to disadvantaged young people.

“It was partly because of those terrible experiences he endured,as well as research that I carried out to find out more about the regiment, that gave me the idea for the novel.”

The Chindits would go down in history as a legendary military fighting unit but lost half of their number in the course of the campaign in World War Two.

Now Ian’s latest book, entitled ‘Of Love and Sanity’, published by Petrel Publications, set between the warring jungles of Burma in 1943 and modern times, is available now via online retailers.

“As Jim was an animal lover, profit from the book is being donated to SSPCA, I think he would have approved” added Ian.
