Checking for serious damage and collecting strewn debris following the strong winds swept across Scotland overnight, closing the Tay Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge as well as other transport links around the country.

A SCOTS DG spokesperson said: “The Commanding Officer took it upon himself to get the regiment out into Leuchars this morning to clear up the debris and litter left by storm Gertrude overnight.

“It was a good neighbourly gesture, and one which he felt was beneficial to the community.”
