Leven's Letham Glen secures Green Flag Award recognition

Environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful confirmed Green Flag Awards would be going to Letham Glen in Leven, along with three others in Kirkclady and one in west Fife, in praise of their high standards.

The honour, administered in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful, is a benchmark for top-grade green space.

The winning Kingdom parks, run by Fife Council’s parks and countryside department, join almost 70 others from across the country which are receiving the award.

Kirkcaldy’s Beveridge Park, Dunnikier Country Park and Ravenscraig Park are among the winners, along with Pittencrieff Park in Dunfermline.

Councillor Lesley Laird, depute leader for Fife Council, said: “Fife has fantastic parks and green spaces and we’re delighted to have retained Green Flag Award recognition for five of our parks for another year.

“These awards are a great endorsement of the work of council staff, friends’ groups and volunteers across the Kingdom.

“I encourage Fifers to take a trip and appreciate some of Fife’s wonderful parks during the summer.”

All parks are assessed by volunteer judges with a background in park management, conservation or ecology.

Applicants are judged against testing criteria which includes assessing whether the park or green space is welcoming, safe, well-maintained and secure.

Dr Lindsay Montgomery, CBE, chairman of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Good quality green space is vital to the health and wellbeing of local communities, families and individuals – that is why it’s fantastic to see Scotland’s parks and green spaces going from strength to strength.”
