A marriage made in...Letham Glen

Leven's Letham Glen has long been a favourite place for newlyweds to have their pictures taken but Maeke and Ryan Campbell went one better '“ they also got married in the beauty spot.

In what is thought to be a first, the couple had their marriage ceremony in the sunken garden, with seating laid out for around 100 guests, and then celebrated the reception at a marquee set up on the former putting green.

“It was absolutely fabulous,” said dance teacher Maeke. “Many of the kids that I teach also came down with their parents to watch the ceremony so there were probably about another 100 people standing round the garden, it was amazing.

“Feedback from guests has been that it was a great idea.”

Having both grown up in Leven, Letham Glen holds lots of childhood memories for both Maeke (30) and Ryan (29), a storeman at BiFab in Methil.

“It’s also such a beautiful place but as no one had ever had a wedding there as far as we or anyone else knew, I thought there must be a reason for it not happening before.” said Maeke.

However, Maeke contacted Fife Council and discovered there was nothing to stop it taking place at the Glen.

“There were things we had to do, such as we could not be seen to be promoting alcohol outside the marquee, and our area was clearly marked as separate with lanterns and signposts.”

Every bride wants her day to be special but Maeke’s had a fairy tale quality.

As well as the wedding taking place in beautiful gardens in glorious sunshine, she arrived from her dad’s home on Largo Road in a carriage drawn by white horses.

“Who knows, we might have started a trend for people to have their weddings in the Glen in future,” Maeke said.
