The hills are alive too in Edinburgh as the UK tour of The Sound Of Music comes to Playhouse from February 20-24.

Starring The Voice finalist Lucy O’Byrne as Maria, her performances so far have seen her compared to the iconic Julie Andrews.

You may also know Neil McDermott in the role of Captain Von Trapp for his appearances in Eastenders. This Bill Kenwright production promises much and with such a memorable soundtrack like Do-Re-Me, My Favorite Things and Edelweiss I’m sure all ages will be itching to join in.

When the movie was released there was almost a cult following who would see it many many times and I remember the soundtrack LP was in the charts for over a year back in the day.

Another cult musical comes to the Playhouse for a month in May with the return of Wicked, the story of the witches of Oz.

This promises to be a spectacular show with 100 international awards and five-star reviews already having been running in the West End since 2006 and even longer on Broadway with nearly 6000 performances.

Gregory Maguire’s novel was based on the Wizard of Oz written in 1900 and shows how Elphaba the green ‘wicked’ witch (played by Amy Ross) can be misunderstood as she joins Glinda (Helen Woolf) at the Shiz University. Ever since the opening the song Defying Gravity has been a fans favourite.
