Music, markets and memories at Anster Harbour Festival

Anster Harbour Festival hit its stride this year, with a packed programme and summer weather attracting the crowds.

New this year was a spectacular firework display on Saturday night and the revived historic Anster Fair, which brought traders from near and far.

There was a crowded harbour for the Anster Muster, with dozens of vessels arriving on Friday and staying over the weekend.

Two festival marquees proved to be popular places for browsing, eating and drinking.

Music played a big part in the weekend. The City of St Andrews Pipe Band got the celebrations under way in rousing fashion, while the ceilidh on Saturday night was the perfect backdrop for first class country dancing by the Dundedin Dancers. A highlight of the day was a performance by Waid Academy ceilidh band Mearsach and the weekend finished on a high note with music from Uncle Red.

The Reaper herring drifter brought ashore this year’s Fisher Lad and Lass, Adam Lockhart and Molly Scott.

There was also lots of fun and competition in the Community Challenge rowing regatta, won by Anstruther Fish Bar.

On Sunday, the memorial service commemorating the 1918 Battle of the Isle of May paid respects to those who had lost their lives at sea.
