The harbour was closed off for a week last year when it was used for the series ‘Outlander’ which has been a huge success on Amazon Prime.

Eunice Cameron, secretary of the Community Council, said that during discussions with Cllr Marie Penman she discovered that tourists from across the world are visiting locations used during the filming of the series and they then decided to try and attract them to the harbour.

She said: “During the filming there was a huge ship brought up from the south of England and the whole of Dysart was hanging over the wall from Ravenscraig Park to try and have a look!

“It was super to see and very exciting.

“We discovered later that Culross, Falkland, Blackness, St Andrews and other places which were also used as shooting locations for the series were upping their game with regards to getting customers in for tourism, and it seems to be Germany and America that are the most hooked on the series.”

Cllr Penman, who also lectures in journalism at Fife College, said: “One of my students lives in Falkland and works in the Covenantor Hotel.

“She said it’s always packed out with American tourists who are there because of Outlander.

“So I said to Eunice if they’re only 20 minutes down the road then why don’t we try to direct them here, which is another great location from the series.

“We got the leaflets made up, using a local printer and we want to get them out to places where tourists already are and make Dysart the next link in the Outlander chain.

“Dysart is the forgotten corner of Fife, and it’s a beautiful place to visit.”
