No skates for Fife Flyers stars... just sharks!

There were no skates, but plenty of sharks on display when four intrepid Fife Flyers took to the water at Deep Sea World this week.

And although the prospect of diving in at the deep end among 3 metre long sand tiger sharks, angel sharks and stingrays may have given others the collywobbles, ice hockey players Paddy Cullen, Nicolas Rioux, Michael Dorr and Justin Fox were fairly chilled, if a little nervous beforehand, about the whole thing.

The stars swapped their ice skates for flippers at the North Queensferry venue in aid of the Flyers’ nominated charity – the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

And fans were happy to donate to the worthy cause, with around half of the £2000 target raised in advance of the swim yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

Cullen said: “I was really excited about the shark dive. It’s something I have always wanted to do, and the fact that it was for charity made it even more worthwhile. Hopefully we can raise even more money, after the dive, once people have seen us take the plunge!”

Nicolas Rioux added: “Other people have done this and survived, so here’s hoping I can do the same!”
