The 2020 Twilight Walk has been cancelled.

The vital fundraiser for our Maggie’s Centre had been delayed from May until August 22 in the hope it could still go ahead as lockdown restrictions were eased.

But the organisers of the long-standing event have taken the difficult decision to scrap it.

They felt it was not possible to deliver a safe mass participation event in the current crisis.

The Twilight Walk is a major fundraiser for our cancer care centre, generating over £130,000 in the past 14 years.

Staged in Glenrothes, it has enjoyed huge support from the community with thousands of people taking part.

The organisers are hoping this year’s entrants will continue to raise funds for Maggie’s Fife in other ways including taking part in a virtual kilt walk launched recently, or the Miles For Maggie’s challenge.

A statement on Maggie’s Fife social media said: “ It’s been a really difficult decision, but we can’t risk any one’s safety in the current situation. We do hope you understand.

“We can’t thank, the small group of friends who started it, enough for their commitment and support.

We know how disappointed Twilight Walkers will be and we hope that you will still consider walking for Maggie’s and supporting Maggie’s Fife in other ways.”
