Picture special: Forget the weather - SkateJam 2016 is a huge success!

The annual competition – which featured the dizzying talents of 50 skateboarders, bladers, scooters and bikers from Fife and beyond – took place at Beveridge Park.

Dave Gillespie, a senior youth worker at Kirkcaldy YMCA, said: “It was a great success despite the weather!

“We had at least three big showers to deal with throughout the day, but once again the young people from Kirkcaldy YMCA’s Crew Project made the best of a difficult situation, kept spirits high and got the brushes out to clear the water just in time for the sun to come out and dry the park.

“Three times!”

This year saw the first annual “Lindberg Ledge” contest, a skateboard-only competition for the best trick on the box at the park.

The winner, Blair McCafferty, was presented with a skate deck hand painted by local artist Kerry Wilson in memory of legendary local skater Shaun Lindberg who passed away last year.

The deck was presented by his wife Linda Lindberg, daughter Samantha and sister Vicki Litster.

SkateJam attracted sizeable crowds when the sun shone.

Dave said: “From a personal point of view, it was great to see a wide and varied range of people from the local community come together to make it a really special day. Long may it continue.”

He also thanked the sponsors and expressed pride at the organising and fundraising work carried out by the Crew Project.

“It’s really a pleasure to be working with such an enthusiastic, motivated and capable group of young people.”
