Rose Queen kicks off a royal week in Leven!


Thankfully things cleared up in time for the entertainment which kicked off at noon, and there was a host of stalls, dancers, gymnastics, and performances by the school choirs, as well as the annual fancy dress competition.
Rose Queen, St Agatha’s Primary School pupil Alisha Auchterlonie, along with her attendants and flower girls,were resplendent in their outfits as they lined up at Carberry House for the crowning event.

Hide AdThe honours were carried out by Alex Laing, recently retired janitor at St Agatha’s.


Following the crowning and an address by the new queen for 2016, the whole party headed out for the annual parade around the town, led by Kennoway Town Pipe Band and the air cadets.
Linda Allardyce of Leven Civic Week committee, said: “It went really well. We were a bit worried when we saw the weather in the morning, bu thankfully things cleared up and it was a great day.”
The ceremony also heralded the start of Civic Week in Leven.

Hide AdToday (Monday) there is a bowling tournament at Leven Bowling Club, while tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon, Alisha is due to visit the MyBus Sunshine Club, a pensioner’s group which meets in the former Scoonie Bowling Club.


The popular sandcastle competition returns to Leven beach at 4.30pm tomorrow too.
Wednesday sees the return of the Civic Week Disney afternoon, which Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto will be putting in a 1.30pm appearance at Letham Glen.
A new event is being held on Thursday – a fashion show in Mcphail’s at 7pm, with donated goods paraded by volunteer models on behalf of Cancer Research.

Hide AdOn Friday, there is inter-schools’ netball at Mountfleurie Primary School, followed in the evening by a party at Leven’s British Legion, to help the Civic Week crew wind down after a busy week.


On Saturday, there’s a visit to see the residents at Anderson Court, while Civic Week comes to a conclusion on Sunday, June 19 with an afternoon of pool, dominoes and darts tournaments, starting at one-hour intervals, at Mcphail’s in North Street.
There is £100 prize money up for grabs in each, and the teams will be playing for the Jimmy Drysdale Memorial Trophy.
