Last year, the hard working employees cycled the equivalent distance of Scotland to Penzance and back on a stationary bike within the store, raising a fantastic £2500 for the charity drive.

And for 2016, the St Andrews Ryman store is getting involved with the four main themes for this year - walking, running, swimming and cycling with a range of local challenges.

They’ve already been hard at it since launching their charity drive on February 21, counting all of their steps taken within the store in a bid to reach the 300 mile distance from the head office in Crewe right up to the shop on Market Street – a whopping 600,000 steps!

In the cycling category, a four man team – Rick & Ryan and Dean & Louise – will attempt to cycle as many times as they can in one day between Guardbridge and St Andrews, taking place next Wednesday.

For swimming, water babies Alice and Aine are planning to swim 500 lengths of the local pool between them, one length each for every blue ‘Swim’ pen sold in the store this year. At 25 metres per length, that adds another eight miles to the total distance covered by the store colleagues this year.

And once again, the staff will be taking part in The St Andrews Mile, encouraging as many of the customers, colleagues, friends and followers to join in and help to speed past the 500 mile target.

The event takes place on March 20 at the University of St Andrews between 11am and noon, and the Ryman staff are challenging other local businesses to get involved too.
