LEVEN company Silberline has announced the 2011 winner of its annual Ernest Scheller III Memorial Scholarship.

Scott Harper (17), from Kirkcaldy was awarded the prize, which provides him with three years university funding.

Scott, a former pupil at Kirkcaldy High School, is off to study Mathematics at St. Andrews University.

The scholarship was introduced in memory of Ernest Scheller III, who was president of Silberline Manufacturing Company for only seven months until his premature death in 1997, aged 40.

Fraser Phillips, Silberline managing director, said: “All seven short-listed candidates selected for interview were of an extremely high standard this year.

“Scott’s outstanding academic successes included him gaining the highest mark throughout Scotland for Higher Chemistry in 2010. Scott has also been involved in many extra curricular, civic and community activities.

“All of these outstanding attributes assisted in the adjudication panel’s decision to award the Ernest Scheller III Memorial Scholarship to Scott this year.”
