Hundreds of people turned up to run along the beach akin to the famous movie scene as well as do their bit for charity.

“For every person that enters the Chariots race, we’ll be able to fund more pioneering research into cancer. The more people that run, the more labs we’ll get to fund,” said Lucy Keen, Worldwide Cancer Research.

Race organiser Ben McLeod called the day a resounding success: “We had 549 sign up for the 5km and just shy of 200 children in the kids race – both significant records – we had 411 runners and 120 children in 2015.

“The men’s race was won by Alan Hume of Central AC for the second time whilst reigning Scottish 100km champion Sophie Mulluns was first woman home, also winning her second Chariots title.

“There was also over 600 fudge doughnuts consumed by a grateful running field and the sun shone as the band played on. I am already planning to make next year’s event even better!”
