St Andrews man Colin McAllister has published his hilarious new joke collection – More Than 100 Jokes That Made Me Laugh – “I know so many jokes and they come back to me by verbal association, so I decided to see how many I could remember. I like to make people laugh – it is a great solvent for grief and sorrow.”

Colin’s been collecting his jokes for decades, but what is it that makes a perfect joke? “A good joke keeps you guessing as to where it is going, and often ends with the unexpected or incongruous,” he says. “Timing and accent also play their part.”

Colin McAllister was born in 1942 in Sao Paulo, Brazil but has lived in St Andrews since 1955. He was educated at the Abbey School, Fort Augustus and at St Andrews University. For 28 years he taught economics and related subjects at Dundee College.

Well-known in the area, he was captain of the New Golf Club in 1999 and president of St Andrews Burns Club from 2005-2007. But does he have a favourite joke? “It’s probably the one about Bunty Fetherington and what happens when he retires to St Andrews...” The 100 plus jokes, including the punchline, is now available for £10.
