And this weekend the pupils will be celebrating their cultural diversity with a special International Day.

The junior school pupils have organised the event, with some help from their senior school counterparts and will stage a colourful and musical parade, along with an ‘around the world’ food market.

Many of the students will wear their national dress from countries as diverse as China and Switzerland, to Italy and Germany as they showcase their own authentic foods and other products from their homelands.

The menu already includes toasted marshmallows from the USA, delicious cheese from France, Spanish tapas along with some more unusual delicacies.

The event, which is open to the public as well as the school community, will also include face painting, an ice-cream van, a crèche, a raffle and games for younger visitors.

The event is being organised as part of the pupils’ International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) 25 hour Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project. Studied throughout the Diploma programme, CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies and must span two components of either Creativity, Activity or Service.

Sixth Form student Flora Adam who is involved in the project commented: “International Day is a fantastic event to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of our school community and the friends we make during our time here – one of the many great aspects of life at St Leonards.

“It’s also a brilliant CAS project for us, from preparing stalls and organising the parade, to hosting what is traditionally a fantastic event for the wider community which we are so proud to be part of.”

Now in its fifth year, the main event will take place in St Katherine’s Hall, Junior School between 10am and 12pm tomorrow (Saturday) and tickets will cost £2 each.
