Travel restrictions have now been lifted, meaning that those living in Fife can now leave their council area for non-essential purposes for the first time since Christmas.
Museums, galleries and many other attractions will then reopen on Monday, April 26, so we thought we’d look at some of the quirky, interesting and unusual things you can do and see, all within an hour’s drive of the centre of Kirkcaldy.
9. Meet a parliament of owls
Located in Polkemmet Country Park, just off the M8 motorway near Whitburn, the Scottish Owl Centre lays claim to the largest collection of owls in the world. Get up, close and personal with some of the amazing birds of prey and enjoy the regular flying displays. Photo: Canva
10. Relive the cold war in a secret nuclear bunker
Set in the countryside of the East Neuk of Fife is an unassuming farmhouse with a big secret - it's the entrance to a bunker built by the RAF in 1951 when there was a very real fear of nuclear war with the USSR. Named RAF Troywood, and now called Scotland's Secret Bunker, visitors can explore the dormitories, cinemas, and operations rooms that were kept secret by the authorities until 1993. 11. Become part of a computer game in Dundee
There's plenty to keep you busy in Dundee for numerous day trips, but for a unique adventure download Biome Collective's 'Other' game onto your mobile phone. Developed in collaboration with the National Theatre of Scotland, it allows you to explore the city, famous for its gaming industry, as part of a spooky, interactive experience. Photo: Canva
12. Do time in Stirling's Old Town Jail
Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument draw the crowds to Stirling, but the city's Old Town Jail offers more macabre entertainment. An hour's drive from Kirkcaldy, the attraction gives you the chance to experience life as an inmate in the 19th century Tolbooth Gaol, reputed to be the worst jail in Britain. Photo: Google Maps
