The guide was launched as more people prepare for a staycation after the pandemic.

West Sands got the expert seal of approval for its uninterrupted sand, backed with dunes stretching for two miles, and it’s a great place for you and your dog to burn off some energy.

Burntisland was praised for being a great beach around which to base a family day out or holiday as you’ll have plenty of space for walking your dog, but also lots of activities to keep children entertained.

Laura Playforth, professional standards director at Vets Now and one of the authors of the guide, said: “The team were really impressed with West Sands and Burntisland Beach, especially the pet friendliness and facilities on offer, and believe them to be an ideal destination for the UK’s dog lovers.”

“We’ve only chosen beaches where: water quality is deemed high, dogs are welcome all year round, parking and access is good and a daytime vet is based nearby.

"All those featured are within an hour’s drive of a Vets Now pet emergency clinic or hospital so, if you’re at the beach in the evening or weekend and suffer a pet emergency, you know you’re never far from expert help.”
