It comes as the service says goodbye to one of the team who helped set the official Levenmouth foodbank up in 2013.

Alison Nelson has served as co-ordinator for the Methil-based hub since its inception, and said: “Its been a real privilege to be a part of such a group of people in such a great community.

“Thank you for all continued support as my colleague Stewart English will carry on the good work.”

The foodbank, which is open to referrals on Monday and Friday afternoons, has been supported by a number of local businesses over the last three years, none more so than Sainsbury’s in Leven, which named the group as it’s charity of the year two years running. Recently, the foodbank received a cheque for a fantastic £1600.

Alison said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of Sainsbury’s customers and staff.

“As well as being the charity of the year we have been grateful to have had the permanent food collection point in Sainsburys which has been, and hopefully will remain, a valuable source of donated food.”

Since the foodbank opened in September 2013, 15 tonnes of food have been collected from the Sainsbury’s Leven store alone, alongside dozens of donations from local groups and schools.
