Campbell (88) was widely known in the town as its ‘unofficial’ historian having amassed a huge archive of documents, photographs and other material relating to Leslie, the earliest of which dated back to the 16th century.

A carpenter by trade, Campbell served his apprenticeship in the town and later worked on a number of landmark construction projects including the building of the Forth Road Bridge and the restoration of parts of Holyrood Palace.

In later life he involved himself in many aspects of community improvement and was a member of the original quarry liaison committee in the 1990s.

A proud champion of the town in which he spent his entire life, he was awarded the Leslie Citizen of the Year award in 2014 by the Community Council.

He is survived by his daughter Elaine.
