Some of the people and orgaisations behind the long-running campaign to repair the Melville Fountain in St Andrews were delighted to see it being switched on for testing last week.

Nearly two decades ago St Andrews Merchants’ Association requested that it be repaired to working order but at that time it was considered to expensive.

However, as the picture shows, water is now sprinkling out the Market Street fountain once aain.

“By working with Fife Council, support funding and the St Andrews Pilgrim Foundation, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club Of St Andrews and St Andrews Common Good Fund, we have now met that request,” said Bill Sangster, who was a member of the Merchants’ Association at the time of the original request.

“A big thank you to all who have taken part in this wonderful accomplishment.”
