Wee Walk raises over £4000 for Castlehill

The cash was raised last year during Summer’s Wee Walk, a charity event inspired by cancer survivor Summer Wroniecki (7), who’s a pupil at Castlehill along with her brother Brody (9).

It was organised along the same lines as the Kiltwalk, in which ‘Team Summer’ have participated several times in aid of children’s cancer charities, and involved children tackling a three-mile route round Duffus Park.

As an added incentive, there were prizes on offer for the children who raised the most sponsorship.

The event was organised by Summer’s parents, Chris and Karen, and close friend Darren Liddle.

It had to be postponed from its original date because Summer was badly injured in an accident at Cupar Children’s Gala the day before.

She was thrown into a ride after a giant inflatable was wrenched from its moorings in high winds and broke a bone in her leg - having only just learned to walk without crutches after her hip was damaged during radiotherapy.

The Wee Walk eventually went ahead in September, with Summer taking part along with some of her friends.

It was well supported by local businesses, who helped raise the amazing total of £4124 for the school, to be used to buy new whiteboards and carry out playground improvements.

Meanwhile, Chris and Darren have also raised thousands for TCCL - Tayside Children with Cancer and Leukaemia - which has recently opened a holiday lodge in St Andrews.

Their fund-raising challenges included a trek along the reat Wall of China and brings the total raised for charity by ‘Team Summer’ to over £100,000..

Summer was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that affects the muscles in September 2011, the day after her third birthday.
