15-year-old charged after assault video is posted online

A 15-year-old girl has been charged after an horrific video was posted online showing a young girl being brutally attacked in front of a crowd of schoolchildren.

The 3½-minute film is said to have been shot on Sunday on the streets of Cowdenbeath and has gone viral, being viewed more than FIVE MILLION times in just a few days, after being widely shared on Facebook.

Police today confirmed they had launched a probe into the video and had charged a 15-year-old girl.

A spokesman said: “Thank you to those concerned members of the public who have contacted us regarding a video of an assault in Cowdenbeath, which is currently on social media.

“Officers have charged a 15-year-old girl in connection with an assault in the Cowdenbeath area. The incident was reported to police on Sunday, August 16.

“A report will be submitted to the Children’s Reporter.”

Horrified watchers online condemned the “bully” who carried out the attack.

One said: “This is sick - it’s made me feel sick to my stomach and feel so sorry for her.”

While another added: “The people there videoing it laughing and doing nothing about it - you are just as bad.”
