A controversial year of culture was a huge success, it has been claimed.
Celebrating Fife 2010 generated an estimated £15 million and attracted 903,478 visits to events throughout the Kingdom.
Fife Council provided funding for 336 community and 55 so-called ‘flagship’ events as part of the festival.
Over 12,000 people were involved in organising events with almost half of those being brand new, independent research had confirmed.
Culture spokeswoman, Dorothy Browse, said that the project had made “a significant and positive contribution to the economic and cultural life in the Kingdom“.
She added: “The success of our year of culture has also been so important in building for the future and strengthening the confidence and capacity of our communities.
It really is fantastic that the event has left such positive legacy.“
