20 hippos delivered to Glenrothes!

PRIMARY schools in the Glenrothes area prepared themselves for an unusual delivery as 20 hippos made their way to the town.

The delivery was a major milestone in preparation for the Great Glenrothes Hippo Parade, organised by the Kingdom Shopping Centre.

The parade pays homage to the original series of concrete hippos, one of the town’s most loved and iconic art installations.

The mall, in partnership with Fife Council and Glenrothes Town Twinning Association, has created replica fibreglass hippos for a competition involving local schools.

Eighteen schools have now temporarily adopted one of the hippos ready to paint it with their own design.

The decorated hippos will then go on ‘parade’ through the centre this summer.

Shoppers will be invited to vote for their favourite hippo, with the winning school receiving £500 cash plus adoption of the hippo enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo!

The hippo parade forms part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the twinning of Glenrothes with Boblingen in Germany.
