Discount retailer Poundstretcher is creating 20 new jobs in the town with a new store opening in the Saltire Centre.

The company has confirmed that its existing store which occupies the former Trend Furniture shop in the Kingdom Shopping Centre will remain open for the immediate future.

But no long-term plan has yet been decided.

The new 25,000 square foot store will see a dual trading agreement with Pet Store, a sister company also owned by the Poundstretcher Group, and is set to become the biggest pet retailer in the new town.

The move is part of a UK-wide plan by Poundstretcher to increase market share within its 400 store portfolio.

The Saltire store completed a ‘soft opening’ on Tuesday and will open fully to the public on Friday.

David Richardson, area manager, said the prospect of new jobs was “good news for the town”.

“We will be the biggest pet retailer outside of Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy and we expect to do well in our new location,” added David.
