3000 spectators turn out for unique beach Highland Games

The event saw a traditional Scottish Highland Games staged on the beach opposite the town’s leisure centre – believed to be one of only two such events staged anywhere in the world.
It featured heavyweights, athletes, cyclists and Highland dancers as well as a parade of pipe bands.

Hide AdOrganised by Kirkcaldy4All, the BID company set up to promote the town centre, it also saw several local businesses man stalls along the waterfront which was packed with spectators.
The event got underway with a parade down to the beach where the competition all took place.
Good weather also played its part in making the day a success.
Bill Harvey, BID manager, said: “We’ve got a fantastic location in the waterfront, and we really need to start utilising it for more and more events, but it’s got a great viewing platform if you’s at the sea wall looking down, there’s easy access to the town centre, so you can always pop up for a spot of lunch. It’s a great event for the area.”
