The Fife Division of Police Scotland has over 3000 officers at its disposal, according to new figures released this week.

Statistics from the Scottish Government show that the Kingdom has a total of 3141 officers available across the region.

Deputy Chief Constable Rose Fitzpatrick said the creation of the single service allows for more flexibility in allocating officers to the right place at the right time.

She said: “Police Scotland can now provide improved access to specialist services in support of local policing right across the country, with every division now benefiting from being able to draw in this resource when needed.”

Local resources are the core complement of officers under the direction of the local commander and include community policing, response policing and divisional road teams.

In the Fife division, there is a core of 811 officers delivering response and community policing.

The Divisional Road Policing Unit contains a further 28 officers taking the total local figure up to 839.

The figures also include officers within the Divisional Criminal Investigation Department and Public Protection Units, and specialised officers attached to Divisional Rape Investigation Units, Domestic Abuse Investigation Units and Divisional Violence Reduction Units.

Local policing is further supplemented by specialist resources.

Regionally, Fife has 939 officers providing specialist support, such as armed policing units and major investigation teams.

Nationally the division has access to a further 1363 resources including human trafficking and air and mounted support.

DCC Fitzpatrick added: “Every division now has access to every kind of specialist support without geographical boundaries.

“This allows us to protect and enhance local policing for our communities.

“We continue to maintain police officer numbers at a minimum of 17,234 to meet
the Scottish Government’s commitment and we have a rolling recruitment programme.”
