50 High Street, which opened in the former Toro site at the corner with Charlotte Street, just over two years ago, closed up on Sunday.

Callum Robertson, the Kirkcaldy businessman who was behind the venture which he ran with wife Lynn and daughter Paige, said it was with “a very heavy heart” that he had taken the decision to close.

“It was just too much work,” he told the Press. “Pure and simple, there was far too much work involved in running it alongside my other work commitments which just proved too much.”

Callum is also in charge of his established family funeral directors business which has branches in Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline.

He added: “It has been an absoultely amazing two and a bit years, with lots of peaks and just a few troughs, and I would like to thank everyone who has worked at 50 during that time and all our customers who helped make it a success.

“It is not through lack of custom that we closed, it was just the sheer volume of work involved.

“I had to think about my health which was suffering, and most weekends I was lucky if my sleep hours ran to double figures.

“I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends on the other side of the bar.”

The business operated on a lease agreement and Callum is sure it will soon re-open under new management.

“It was a successful business and I’m sure it won’t be closed for long,” he added.
