A better place to play for Glenrothes kids...

Glenrothes councillors will today, (Wednesday) be asked to agree a £145,000 proposal to fund the complete overhaul of children’s play areas in Broom Road, Rimbleton; Piper Drive, Collydean and Queen Margaret Drive, Auchmuty, all of which have been identified as being priorities following a Fife Council led review into play areas across the town.

But should the refurbishment plans be approved by the Glenrothes area committee, it will come at a cost to six other play areas which will then be ripped up and landscaped.

The areas earmarked for removal are Cullen Drive in Tanshall, as well as two in Tern Court, Heather Court, one in Piper Drive, all of which are in Collydean. The play facility situated close to the old paddling pool in Riverside Park is also to be removed.

The plans have been welcomed by leading Glenrothes councillor Bill Brown, area committee chairman, who told the Gazette the move to renew the areas was “long overdue”.

“I’m certainly in favour of the plan. especially as all three wards within the town will benefit equally, so the proposal is completely fair,” said Cllr Brown.

“In some cases the areas are considerably outdated but with funding available it will be put to good use and be of considerable benefit to the three areas, all of which are are highly populated communities.”

£40,000 towards the cost of the work has already been agreed by the Parks and Countryside Services department with a further £105,000 to come from a £500,000 ‘growth monies’ fund currently included in the area budget, if the plans are given approval.
