Hundreds of women will be descending on Beveridge Park in Kirkcaldy this Sunday for one of the town’s biggest charity fundraising events.

The annual Race for Life, supported by Tesco, will take place which will see women and children of all ages pull on their pink glad rags and even some fancy dress costumes, and run, jog, walk or dance their way round the park to raise as much money as they can for Cancer Research UK.

Almost 2000 people have already joined the formidable army who are ready to take on cancer at the Beveridge Park, in the 5k which kicks off at 11.00 a.m.

But it’s not too late to join them. Entry closes at midnight tonight (Thursday) and organisers are encouraging mums, daughters, grannies, sisters, friends and workmates who want to take part in the 5k women-only event.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK spokesman for Scotland, said: “We are very grateful to the women who have already entered Race for Life in Kirkcaldy but we still have places left so come join us.”

More than 3000 women took part in last year’s 5k event in the town in memory of their loved ones.

In the past, over £128,000 has been raised for cancer charities by Fifers eager to do their bit for charity.

Organisers hope that this year’s race will be just as successful with even more money being raised to be able to carry out vital life saving research.

Speaking after last year’s successful event, Susan Johnstone, the charity’s national event manager for Race for Life Scotland, said: “The support that we receive in Kirkcaldy is always absolutley tremendous and we are always so thrilled that so many women enter Race for Life here in Fife.”

Lisa added: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast.

“It’s about thousands of women coming together to show cancer who’s boss.”

“The Race for Life is an inspiring event and it’s wonderful to be part of an event raising thousands for a charity which is determined to help beat cancer sooner.

“By raising money through Race for Life, people are helping Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists make advances in research which will help more men, women and children survive.”

What is Race for Life?
