A DEDICATED volunteer who has worked tirelessly at the Cancer Research UK shop in Kirkcaldy for 28 years has retired.

Janette Hutson (89), a former midwife, first joined the charity’s ranks of committed volunteers after spotting an advert to say that a new shop was opening in 1985, and help was needed.

In her time there she has worked countless Tuesdays and helped oversee the move from the original premises at 198 High Street to 141 High Street in February last year.

Shop manager Helen Brown said: “I know our regular customers and our volunteers will really miss Janette but her retirement following such steadfast dedication and commitment is very well deserved.

“Cancer Research UK relies on the support of our volunteers to raise money to fund pioneering research and so I want to say a huge heartfelt thanks to Janette for everything she has done for us.”

To mark Janette’s long service Helen and 14 volunteers from throughout Janette’s time at the shop treated the deserving lady to lunch at the Beveridge Park Hotel.

There Janette was rightly showered with gifts, flowers and a certificate.

If you think you have got what it takes to follow in Janette’s footsteps call the Kirkcaldy shop on (01592) 263209 for more information.

If you would like to make a donation it is open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon until 4.00 p.m. on Sundays.

A volunteer driver is also available to pick up heavy items.
