A PRINCIPAL has stepped aside pending an inquiry into the running of his college.

Craig Thomson has volunteered to make the move while the Scottish Funding Council conducts a probe into alleged bullying and mismanagement at the institution, which has a campus at Stenton in Glenrothes.

The college was plunged into crisis last month after the claims were aired on an anonymously-created website.

Dr Thomson said: “It is vital the council is allowed to proceed without any suggestion of direction from me and I have offered to take leave for the duration of the review.”

The college said he would return in a fortnight - a week before the findings of the investigation are expected to be reported to the board of governors.
