Shoppers in Cupar can look forward to a new Aldi supermarket opening within the next few months, it’s been confirmed.

Bosses at the discount food retailer said this week that the development in Cupar’s South Road was well under way and was on schedule for complettion in the summer.

After extensive site preparation, the steel framework is now in place for the new store, which will extend to around 1600 square metres.

Around 30 full and part-time jobs will be created.

The application was unanimously approved by councillors last June, with conditions attached to mitigate concerns about road safety.

A new road layout is to be formed to create a suitable access and residents in South Road will be given dedicated spaces in Aldi’s car park.

Graham Nicolson, property director of Aldi Stores in Scotland, said : “We are very excited about the prospect of bringing the Aldi brand to Cupar, not least because of all the support and encouragement we have had from the local community.”
