Alert as man falls down well at Cathedral

Emergency services were called after a man fell down a well at a Fife landmark.

The alarm was raised at 10am this morning, with a number of police and fire engines in attendance at the Cathedral in St Andrews

It is understood that the well is in the grounds of the Cathedral, close to the ticket counter.

Police were initially called, and asked the fire service to assist.

Scottish Fire and Rescue confirmed that three appliances were on the scene, with further units called, however they were not required.

A spokesman said: "We got the call at around 10:06am this morning.

"Police contacted us and advised us that there was a person that had fallen in a well.

"We attended and rescued the person."

Police say the man had been taken out of the well safely at around 10:45am.

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
