Alex Rowley returns to Labour's shadow cabinet

He was given the communities and local government protfolio in a reshuffle announced by leader, Richard Leonard.

Mr Rowley was the party’s deputy leader from 2015 to 2017 but stepped back fropm that post after a former partner made allegations about alleged abusive messages, which he strongly denied.

He continued to serve as an MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife.

He was previously leader of Fife Council – a post he held twice – and general secretary of the Scottish Labour Party
