All change for mobile library service

The change, whch comes into effect on August 29, comes after cash-strapped Fife Cultural Trust ran a public consultation to redesign the servuice amid wider library closures.

The fleet has also been reduced from three to two.

However the new service, which will see books being loaned on a four weekly basis instead of three, has come in for severe criticism from SNP MP Peter Grant who said communities would be “shocked” by the change.

Fife Cultural Trust, however, maintains the changes, which also include new stops, reflect the views of almost 550 respondents.

Heather Stewart, chief executive said: “The feedback has been vital in assisting the trust to make the appropriate changes where necessary to this very important service which will provide a more efficient, effective and improved library service that is reflective of our users needs.”

The service would also be reviewed after six months.

Fife Cultural Trust caused an uproar when it announced plans to shelve 16 libraries across the Kingdom.

However 10 were given an opportunity to become community-led ventures after the trust pulls out in March next year.

Business plans have already been approved for Lundin Links, Pittenweem and Kinghorn.

Meanwhile, discussions continue over community proposals to take over Glenwood library in Glenrothes.
