Appeal for information on abandoned dog found in Kirkcaldy

The public of Kirkcaldy are being asked for any information they may have about an elderly dog which was found struggling to walk in the Seafield area of the town.

Animal welfare charity the SSPCA was alerted about the plight of the animal by the local dog warden after the male retriever was found in distress wandering around streets in the area last Friday.

John Chisholm, senior inspector, said: “The dog is currently under the care of Fife Council’s dog warden services and receiving the treatment he requires at a local vet clinic.

“Together with the local dog warden we are appealing to trace the owner of this animal. The vet estimates him to be at least ten years old and he has a number of health concerns including a skin and eye condition which will require surgery and severe mobility issues which are now being treated with steroids.

“It may be that this dog has strayed from home and become disorientated but, taking his poor condition into account, we can’t rule out the possibility that he could have been abandoned.

“We’d urge anyone who recognises the dog to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999 or Fife Animal Health and Welfare Helpline on 03451 55 00 22.”
