Police are investigating after an attempted robbery in a Kirkcaldy car park on Saturday afternoon.

An elderly lady had her handbag snatched by a man in the Coal Wynd car park at around 3.35pm and when her husband intervened a struggle ensued and her husband was knocked to the ground and received a bump to the head.

Another woman then intervened in order to rescue the bag, and at that point the would-be robber fled the scene after yet another short struggle.

Police are now keen to trace the man, who is described as white, in his 30s and about 5’7” tall.

He had a scruffy appearance with frizzy hair and was wearing a black bomber type jacked and grey tracksuit bottoms.

He was carrying a rucksack.

Detective Sergeant Craig Fraser said: “This was nothing short of a cowardly attack on an elderly lady by this suspect who saw fit to struggle violently with all three people in his attempt to steal this bag.

“The last sighting of the suspect we have is of him on the High Street near to the indoor market.

“Anyone who can help us identify this man is asked to call us at Kirkcaldy on 101.”
