The Cobalt Contemporary Gallery near Pittenweem is hosting its first exhibition of 2016 from this weekend.
It is showing work from a number of artists based on the theme of ‘Matiere’, which focuses on the large assortment of materials used in contemporary art.
North east Fife artist Susan Winton is among those featured, alongside such names at Arthur Watson, current president of the Royal Scottish Academy, and one of the best-known figures in Scottish contemporary art, Richard Demarco, founder of the Traverse Theatre, who last year visited Buckhaven High School and was impressed by pupils’ portfolios of work.
‘Matière’ explores how artists infuse associative and subjective meaning into their work through a wide-ranging use of materials, including wax, earth, wood ash, fabric, sequins, sewn lines and found objects.
Other exhibitors include Conrad Atkinson, Irene Barberis, G. W. Bot, Grant Clifford, Charlotte Hodes, Marian Leven, Janet McKenzie, Will Maclean and Christiana Spens. The exhibition runs from March 5-13, between 11am- 5pm daily.
