B&M has doubled the size of its store on Riverside Retail Park in Leven, as part of its rapid expansion across the UK.

The value retailer, which sells branded products at low prices, has taken unit 4 – the former Acorn Pets outlet – adjacent to its existing shop at unit 3 at Riverside to form a new 17,500 sq ft store.

It has signed a new 15-year full repairing and insuring lease for the extended store, at an initial rent of £175,000 per annum with six months rent free.

Formed in 1976, B&M is now one of the leading variety retailers in the UK.

From its first store in Blackpool, B&M has grown to approximately 280 stores and employs over 7000 staff.

Its stores attract over one million customers every week and sell a wide range of goods, from food and drink to beauty products and furniture.

Stuart Moncur, head of retail for Cushman & Wakefield in Scotland, which acted for the landlord Legal & General UK Property Trust c/o Legal & General Investment Management, said: “B&M has traded well at Riverside since it first opened and the business has been keen to increase the size of its store and the number of goods on offer.

“In these challenging economic times, the consumer is looking for good quality branded products at competitive prices. B&M clearly offers this and will drive further footfall to the retail park.”

The letting follows on from the recent arrival of B&Q in the former Focus unit.

“B&M has ambitious plans to grow its UK coverage, not only by opening stores in new locations, but also by upsizing stores in existing locations,” added Mr Moncur.
