Friends of the 20-year-old Leslie man killed in a tragic hit and run incident earlier this year are raising money for a bench in his memory, reports KEVIN QUINN.
Stephen James McCann, known by friends as Jeff, was knocked down by a car at 3.15am on 21 January on the A911, around 100 yards east of the Greenside.
Now his friends plan to put a bench in the Back Braes, dedicated to Stephen.
Natasha Law, (20), is one of the friends aiming to raise £1,200 for the bench- for which Fife Council have given planning permission and are fitting the bench free of charge.
She said: “We began by putting collection tins into the local shops a couple of days ago. Some of the tins are already full, so that’s great. The more that people hear about the bench the better.
“We are hoping to have an event in the town hall at the end of May and a fancy dress night in the CISWO, hopefully the same weekend.
“Stephen’s mum suggested the fancy dress party as he would have loved it.
“We think this would make a lot of money. But the children will want to do something too, so if we get the town hall, it will be the following day in the afternoon.
“We know the family well and they are over the moon that we are doing something like this to remember their son.”
Natasha said that they plan to place the bench in memory of Stephen, at the spot where there used to be a bench that he would meet his friends at when they were younger.
