Police cordoned off the St James Street Car Park at the town’s harbour as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 11.30am on Thursday, July 30, officers were called to the Port Brae area of Kirkcaldy following a report of suspicious items which required Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) assessment.

However, after 1pm, following an assessment of the items - which appeared to be located in the boot of a car - there was found to be no cause for alarm and after the items were checked over, police officers and the bomb squad team left the scene within half an hour.

The incident comes after a car caught fire in the same area last Friday. A fire crew from Kirkcaldy arrived quickly and the car was extinguished within half an hour. Luckily no-one was hurt.
