She said that difficulties with the previous operator and the curtailed hours had been a long running cause for concern, and she has spent many months in contact with the Post Office to try to resolve the situation.

Maria has moved with her young family to the town to devote time to her new business venture.

“I intend to move to seven day opening as soon as I can,” she explained.

“We will be stocking stationery and cards as well as operating all post office services and the sale of Lottery tickets. I want to offer good quality products as well as an excellent post office service.

Cllr Leslie added: “We have waited a long time to resolve the issues with Burntisland post office, so it is great to hear that Maria and her family are so committed to the town. I hope that residents will support the new service.”
