Kennoway’s summer Civic Week is about to be unveiled, with a calendar packed full of festivities and events for the whole community.

It all starts this Friday with the investiture of the Lad and Lass for 2014, and is capped on Sunday, June 8 with the Kennoway Carnival at Cotlands Park.

In between, there’s a busy diary of indoor and outdoor events for everyone to enjoy.

A special week to treasure for this year’s Lad, Aiden French, and Lass, Zara Loughrey, begins with their investiture ceremony on Friday, with invited guests, at Kennoway Primary School.

Then on Sunday there will be a kirkin’ ceremony at St Kenneth’s Parish Church, which is due to feature readings from Zara and Aiden, along with choral performances and a general blessing for Civic Week.

Monday, June 2, sees a car treasure hunt, leaving from the car park behind the British Legion, while the Sunbeam Inn plays host on June 3 to a junior and senior domino tournament.

There’s tea bingo the next day at Lodge St Kenneth, followed on June 5 by a tea dance at the school and a general knowledge quiz night for teams of four at Kennoway Bowling Club.

On June 6 there is a pool tournament at the Swan Hotel, followed by ‘a day of rest’ on the Saturday.

On Carnival Day, the procession, with Kennoway Town Pipe Band, leaves the school at 12.30 p.m. and heads to Cotlands for the offical opening by Zara and Aiden at 12.45 p.m.

Fancy dress and bonnie baby competitions, football display, Highland dancing, children’s races, Filipino dancers, keep fit display, tap dancing, Magic Man the magician and a raffle are among the many attractions, together with the customary sideshows, refreshments and stalls.
