BUS passengers are finding their fares are going under a fair bit more scrutiny just now.
Drivers and senior management at Stagecoach East Scotland are working in conjunction with local police forces to deal with the large number of fraudulent notes that are currently in circulation in the area.
After consultations with the police bosses, all drivers have been issued with detector pens to check any suspect notes.
If a note is found to be fake, drivers have been advised by the police to retain the note, along with the passenger’s details.
Sarah Longair, Stagecoach East Scotland’s operations director, said: “The proliferation of counterfeit notes in the area is a concern for staff and customers alike.
“By using the detector pens, we hope that our drivers will be able to reduce the number of fake notes which are currently in the area.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank customers for their co-operation in this matter.”
