Mid-Scotland and Fife regional list MSP, Willie Rennie, has welcomed progress on the building of the UK’s aircraft carriers.

Mr Rennie recently took up the leadership of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.

Commenting as Liam Fox cut the first steel for the new aircraft carriers being built at BAE systems on the Clyde, Mr Rennie said: “After all the fighting over many years for these crucial ships I am delighted by the progress made today. It means skills, jobs and investment for Fife and the Clyde.

“As the former MP for Rosyth and a member of the Defence Committee I fought for the carriers throughout my time at Westminster.”

In the General Election of 6 May 2010 Rennie lost his seat to the Labour candidate Thomas Docherty. He was then Special Advisor to the new Liberal Democrat Scottish Secretary Michael Moore MP

Mr Rennie returned to front-line politics as an MSP when he won a regional list seat for the Liberal Democrats in the Scottish Parliament’s Holyrood elections on 5 May 2011.
